AMS now offer the service of extruding aluminium profile sections. We have invested heavily in state of the art extrusion facilities so, as well as extruding our own profiles, we can offer the service of design & extrusion of other aluminium profiles, not only in the facade industry, but any industry where aluminium extrusions are being used. Imagine the flexibility of being able to have an extrusion that was previously not in stock, available the next day.

Aluminium Profile Extrusion at AMS

The extrusion process is so flexible that as soon as we can heat the die and billet to the required temperature, the extrusion of aluminium profile can begin. We are able to produce over 1,000 kg's of extrusion per hour on our press. Once the metal has been extruded it is then oven aged for approximately 8 hours to bring the metal to the required temperature. Once aging is complete it can then be made available to the customer, or indeed, go into another process within the same building e.g. Painting, Decoral, thermal break or fabrication.

The extrusion plant will now bring AMS into new markets e.g. Aerospace, Engineering, Renewable energies, transportation to mention a few. It will also generate important export opportunities to many other markets, some of which, we are already supplying today in countries like France.

What is Aluminium Profile Extrusion?


Put simply, extrusion is the process for moulding profiles, cooling the profile with water or air and drawing the profiles while it is still soft. Aluminium profile extrusion is the process of shaping aluminium profiles by pushing it through a shaped opening in a die, shaping the aluminium bar to match that particular cross section or aluminium profile. This extrusion creates an elongated piece with the same profile as the die opening.


The aluminium is then extruded, cooled and treated, how it is processed then depends on your particular requirements. Usually requirements are standard cross sections for example channels, bars and tubes. Bespoke dies and unique profiles can also be created.

Why Aluminium Profile Extrusion?


Weight - Aluminium is light (approximately 1/3 the weight of iron) meaning it will be easier and cheaper to transport.


Strength - During the aluminium process, strength can be adjusted where required by increasing wall thicknesses and internal reinforcement in the profile design. Aluminium also increases in strength in cold weather which suits colder weather climates.


Non-magnetic and Non-sparking - Aluminium extrusion profiles can be effectively used in high-voltage applications and are well suited for situations involving explosive materials


Short lead times - meaning extruded aluminium will be quick to market


Feature Flexibility - The extruded aluminium profile process means that components can incorporate extra features that provide interlocking systems, fixings, channels that prevent the future need for additional parts.

Aluminium design - aluminium is one of the top most malleable metals making it simple and cheap to offer high levels of designoptions. Aluminium profiles can be extruded in a range of bespoke shapes depending on your individual needs. Aluminium profiles can be made into complex shapes even after extrusion.


Reflective - Aluminium is an excellent reflector of light which makes it suitable for lighting applications where the purpose is to shield areas from light, radio waves or infrared radiation.


High strength to weight ratio -This rare quality makes extruded aluminium ideal for situations where load carrying is key e.g. aerospace, bridges,automotive, railway, marine etc.


Corrosion resistant - aluminium extrusions do not rust and if required, extra protection can be obtained through additional finishing processes such as anodizing. These properties can be utilized in architecture, marine, mining, wires etc.


Thermal and electrical conductors – Aluminium conducts heat and cold better than most other metals. Extruded aluminium is also a cost effective alternative for conducting electricity (aluminium is 2x as conductive as copper). Due to these properties, the metal can be used in applications such as radiators, heatsinks, radiators, electronics and Air conditioning. Corrosion resistance also makes aluminium extrusion perfect for outdoor and industrial environments, lowering of maintenance costs and maintaining the quality of outward appearances.
