AMS – Architectural & Metal Systems Ltd. based in Little Island, Cork, Ireland, are proud to announce the opening of a new extrusion press thanks to a multi-million Euro investment. This investment was partly prompted by the increased demand for the manufacture of quality products and is driven by plans to expand into export markets. AMS have consistently invested, growing from humble roots to become a multimillion Euro, internationally trading company with an excellent reputation for aluminium products. The investment in the new facility sees the addition of a new 8 inch/9 inch (203mm/228mm) front-loading GIA extrusion press, runout table, cooling beds, stretcher, cold saw and ageing oven. The new press will complement the state of the art facility in which the existing 7 inch (178mm) GIA press will continue to fulfil orders for many customers in many industries including windows and doors, data centres, lighting, signage and engineering. This investment is one of many that customers have benefited from since the inception of the company in 1990.

The introduction of a new press will have many benefits. It will positively affect the AMS production process, allowing for much larger profiles, influence our international market expansion, the Irish economy and our customers. The addition of this new press means production capacity will increase by nearly threefold, from 6,000 tonnes to over 16,000 tonnes of aluminium each year. Current lead times are highly attractive, running at approx. two weeks. The new GIA extrusion press will enable AMS to compete in new industries, in more countries. The opening of this new extrusion facility will have a huge economic impact in terms of exports and jobs to the local market and is also a reflection of the company’s commitment and positive outlook for the Irish economy in the face of Brexit and general uncertainty.

According to the economic and research agencies, Ireland and The UK is facing an unprecedented degree of uncertainty in 2019. This uncertainty stems from the ambiguity surrounding the outcome of the Brexit process, combined with the possibility of increased international trade tensions and potential tariffs. AMS is no stranger to committing and working through tough, uncertain times. In 2006, AMS made a large investment in the company’s extrusion infrastructure, which was quickly followed by one of the biggest economic downturns of our era. Steadily, AMS grew to produce more designs to meet a growing demand for aluminium products. AMS also responded to the changing demands of the aluminium industry by creating innovative patents and processes ensuring the company maintained a competitive advantage to meet a growing demand for highly efficient thermal products in the window and door industry. Today, AMS still adopt the same philosophy of providing services and products to customers that are second to none. AMS are steadfast in the approach to products and customers, which can be attributed to the continued success and growth and the company to date.

With the new investment, AMS will stand at over 250,000 sq.ft. The new extrusion press will start operation in early 2019. For queries please contact pohara@ams.ie or Pat O’Hara on +353 21 470 5100. Please visit the website for more information. www.ams.ie
