Sustainability & The Environment

Sustainability at AMS

AMS understand the significance of good buildings as a foundation for our lives. Buildings are the places where we find refuge, raise our families, work, meet people, receive education, celebrate, and relax. Ensuring that buildings satisfy all aspects of our work and life needs is necessary for ensuring a healthy, happy and sustainable environment for us all.

The desire for sustainable architecture is becoming ever more apparent. The need to address economic and ecologic ways of living is incorporated into AMS’s manufacturing processes. Core to this progressive mindset is how we shape future environments to suit our work and life needs. By putting this different approach into practice, we can make buildings more energy efficient, and create a better way of life for our health, the economy, environment and our communities. Furthermore, the construction of buildings is more and more concerned with sourcing sustainable raw materials, impacting the lifecycle of buildings and optimising the recycling process. Aluminium construction of doors and windows provide a solution to this need as they are 100% recyclable.

Another solution aluminium provides is the delivery of energy efficiency improvements to buildings Good building construction and its associated parts can play a key role in tackling climate change by reducing energy consumption, and how inefficient buildings can contribute to fuel poverty. A variety of energy sources are used to heat our buildings, from natural gas, heat pumps, electric systems, biomass, and peat costing organisations and contributing to fuel poverty. There is therefore a great deal to gain throughout by manufacturing good quality windows and doors, insulating our buildings, reducing the energy bills in our communities, and better understanding how our buildings work.

AMS is tackling these issues by manufacturing and creating technologies that address these sustainable needs for shaping better future environments for people. We support our clients through all stages of design and construction and advise on our sustainable systems. Our systems are designed to maximise well-being and energy efficiency as well as being practical and suitable for each individual project.

We have ongoing initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint. Completed initiatives include:

  • The installation of a 1-megawatt solar pv system on our roof space; one of Ireland’s largest roof-mounted solar projects.
  • The installation of a large scale water stewardship program whereby rainwater is harvested and used in several of our manufacturing processes.

The Environment

AMS continuously seeks to improve its environmental impacts. Impacts are regularly measured and monitored with an emphasis placed on continuous improvement by the directors and leadership team. Periodic reviews are in place to achieve a high level of performance in sustainability. Environmental considerations are central to our values and to help formalise our processes and procedures we have achieved the following accreditations:

ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) in place and externally accredited by EQA.

ISO50001:2018 Energy Management System (EnMS) in place and externally accredited by Certification Europe.

LEED Accreditation: With approx. 40% of recycled aluminium in our mix we can contribute towards LEED points where certification to the LEED Standard is required.

Through these certifications we aim to achieve the following:

  • To provide our customers with high-quality products and services being leaders in our field
  • Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to the Company
  • To ensure the environment that we work in is preserved to a high level
  • Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible
